Overlawyered.com reports that a high school in Indiana has kept a student from attending the senior prom because he tested positive for nicotine in a drug test. The student was 18. He did not smoke on school property.
The war on drugs appears to be moving towards other gateway drugs. In California the state assembly was considering a sin tax on soda, here a student is being banned from going to the prom becaue he smoked cigarettes and taxes on junk food have been considered. I guess the war on drugs has been expanded to cover other harmful products. Or maybe nicotine is being targated here because it is a “gateway drug.” Well, the gateway drug argument is laughable. Under that theory everything is a gateway drug. Lots of people that become addicted to food, oxygen, and oxygen go on to other drugs under that argument.
