Def Jam and The Rockefeller Drug Laws
Russell Simmons, the founder of Def Jam Records, has started a campaign to have the Rockefeller Drug Laws in New York repealed. Although, I don’t agree with Russell on any of his other political stances, I am glad to see he is doing this. Getting rid of the draconian drug laws is a hip-hop issue because the drug laws lead to crime as much as the drugs do.

Bedford Central School District Taxes

The Bedford Central School District sent out The Bedford Dateline, its annual publication dealing with the Bedford School District Budget. Proposition 1 is the Befor School District Budget. The proposed Budget is an increase of 7.8% compared to a current inflation rate of 2.22%. This means tax increases of course. The following towns will have their property taxes increased.

Town Tax Rate Change

Bedford 8.53%

Mt. Kisco 2.84%

Pound Ridge 7.26%

New Castle 8.45%

North Castle 5.27%

Of Course The PTA and the teacher’s union will claim that sports has to be cut first if the budget fails, but the only reason they will cut sports is because that is the easiest way to spend money.
