Hip-Hop Pork

Political pork is a major problem. Spending is being put towards unnecessary but politically popular projects instead of serving government’s duty of protecting the citizens. The Northeast Bronx Redevelopment Corporation’s development of a hip-hop museum at taxpayer expense qualifies as political pork. The Bloomberg administration has stopped payment on the grant after the firm failed the audit.

There is no reason why a hip-hop museum needs to be created in the Bronx at taxpayer expense. When the Smithsonian;s National Museum of American History decided to develop a hip-hop exhibit they were able to obtain funding from Universal Music and Russell Simmons’ Hip-Hop Summit Action Network. New York City Police and New York schools would be more legitimate sources for the city’s revenue.

I agree. Forget about the Hip Hop Museum; spend the money on schools.
